Client is a large lending and loan servicing institution. Servicing over $10 billion in loan assets, they are one of the leaders in their industry.

Over 600 employees and offices in Silicon Valley and Minnesota, our client manages multiple datacenters in 2 very different business areas.

Statement of Problem

Locations for our client had varying needs, but shared the common desire to provide redundancy for each office in case of disaster.

Customer also required new solutions in the areas of storage, virtualization, replication and disaster recovery. All of these issues combined created a matrix of possibilities and solutions that needed TeleData’s analytical expertise to maintain a reasonable budget, and an acceptable implementation time frame.

TeleData’s Solution

TeleData recognized the need for a ‘hot’ spare site in both locations in order to provide a 24/7 failover point in case of disaster. Using replication between the 2 sites, our analysts were able to provide full redundancy for each location with a flip of a switch. Incidentally this solution was tested 2 weeks after implementation during the California wildfires of 2007.

The other areas surrounding virtualization was the adoption of VMware infrastructure to provide a high level of server consolidation. This reduced the power consumption of the organization by 20% on the datacenter operations alone consolidating 600 servers. Having the enterprise virtualized made the site redundancy initiative a success versus conventional stand alone means.

Results

Our client now has coexisting environments enjoying full redundancy between locations. Eliminating the traditional server sprawl, eWaste, and power consumption of the organization via virtualization, has not only saved our client a substantial amount of money, but also positioned them for a reduced impact on the environment. This has our client poised to set an example of conservation in the datacenter industry.
